Restyle 2014

GROUP-RESTYLE
Photo-A-Day-List

Tomorrow marks the start of August, which also means it’s the start of this year’s Restyle Photo-A-Day Opshop Challenge! (Can you believe it has been a year!)

Just in case you are staring at your screen with a confused expression, let me explain.
Restyle is an initiative by the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival that highlights the importance of op shopping and aims to raise awareness about how it benefits our community. The Photo-A-Day Opshop Challenge invites you to get involved by shopping at your local opshops throughout the month and creating outfits each day using the prompts above.
Do you accept the challenge?!

I was lucky enough to be one of the official Restylers for last year’s challenge.  I had so much fun shopping and creating outfits! You can check out some of my favourite looks herehere and  here!
A fresh batch of Restyle bloggers have accepted the challenge this year to inspire and encourage you in your Restyling efforts. Be sure to check them out below and follow all the Restyle action on social media using #restyle2014.

Good luck to this year’s Restylers.. I am so excited to see what you come up with!

So over to you…Get creative, get (re) styling and get down to your local op shop!

Last weekend the Restyle-ers and I strutted our stuff down the catwalk for Restyle on the Runway. As part of the program for the Perth Fashion Festival we took to the stage not once, but twice, showcasing some of our best looks from the Restyle challenge.
Quite honestly I was freaking out a little (which is evident by the photos.. I look rather scared!!) But luckily, I made it down the catwalk (and back) a total of eight times without a single stumble!! Phew!
All in all the show was a success and I am so happy I was able to take part in the Restyle challenge this year!!
A special thank you to the amazing project manager: Renee Glastonbury, for all her hard work and encouragement along the way!! Also, a giant thank you to everyone involved behind the scenes, the make up artists, hair artists, dressers and the lovely volunteers who took to the stage with us.
Oh, and of course a big thank you to everyone who came along to support us in our catwalk debut! Mwah!

As promised, here is Part Two from the Student Runway show at the Perth Fashion Festival.
Part Two features the designs from three categories: Eco Design, Contemporary Eveningwear and Costume Design.
I have to say the Contemporary Eveningwear was my favourite category of the night with pretty much every one of the designs something I would wear (if I ever had a suitable occasion!!)
Once again a big congratulations to the winners of these categories: Meg Isabella-Hewett (Eco Design), Emily Brewer (Contemporary Eveningwear) and Jasmine Nash (Costume Design). Can’t wait to see what they come up with next!!

Amazing, amazing, amazing!! Student Runway never disappoints! It is always one of my favourite shows at the Perth Fashion Festival as the creativity and talent of some of the students really blows me away.
A lot of the designs are so over the top and at times un-wearable but I love the fact that the students let their imagination run wild while creating these pieces.
I wanted to share as many images as I could from the show, so I have broken the post into two parts. Today’s post features Ready to Wear Womenswear and Ready to Wear Menswear.
Congratulations to the winners of both categories, Melanie Nicholls (RTW Womenswear) and Cordelia Gibbs (RTW Menswear). I am sure we will be seeing a lot more from these young designers in the near future!!
Stay tuned for Part Two up later today.

As the rain pelted down outside, an warm crowd gathered inside the WA Museum to see the National Showcase as part of the Perth Fashion Festival.

We Are Handsome opened the night, showcasing their signature animal print swimwear. A one-piece with a giant wolf head is now right at the top of my Summer must have list!!

Gorman‘s fun and vibrant collection was up next. Clashing prints and socks with sandals, definitely a collection after my own heart! I loved, loved, loved the large leopard print pattern that appeared throughout the collection.

Lastly, Desert Designs showcased their loud, bright, perfectly named ‘Increase the Acid’ collection. Digital prints of Aboriginal artist Jimmy Pike have been made into modern garments to create this crazy collection.

All in all it was a really great show and definitely has me wishing the gorgeous Spring weather would hurry up!!

On Thursday night four WA designers showcased their latest collections at the Perth Fashion Festival‘s  Designer Capsule #1 show.
I have to say my favourite of the night was the incredible gold metal jewellery by the talented Alister Yiap. I was blown away by his extravagant creations which consisted of over the top head pieces, body harnesses and neck adornments.

The Butcher + The Crow‘s elegant collection was next. Dip dyed fabrics in exquisite colours, beautifully draped silks and dreamy dresses all featured in their ‘Call of the Bird’ collection.
Megan Salmon‘s ‘Madame Butterfly’ collection was next down the runway. The edgy looks featured a Japanese influence with beautiful prints and textures.

Last up was Empire Rose, whose opening look was accompanied by the biggest dog I have ever seen!!
Tartan, lace, silk, sequins and fabric origami all combined to make this dramatic collection. The attention to detail was spectacular, with so many intricate details on every look and not to mention the amazing hair creations!!

The Perth Fashion Festival has officially begun!! Six days of non-stop action… Definitely my favourite time of the year!!
As we gear up for the craziness of back to back shows, blogging, outfit creating and (this year) walking the runway, I thought I would quickly share with you some images from the Mekel Illustration exhibition at Tu Stairwell Gallery.

Mekel has created a collection of  striking, watercolour works inspired by the 2013 Perth Fashion Festival campaign images. If you are heading in to the city throughout the festival (or even if you’re not!) I highly suggest you check out the exhibition.

Now to choose which one belongs on my wall…

Restyle Photo-a-Day Challenge: Day 31 OUTFIT TO DONATE BACK

Today is all about giving back.

The Restyle challenge comes to an end… For today’s final prompt, I have gathered the family to show that EVERYONE should donate back. A big thing for me, having a young daughter, is seeing the amount of clothes babies go through. Already my daughter has grown out of four sizes of clothing, that is a lot of clothes to go through in just over a year. Clothes, that when donated and sold to others, can make such a difference in their lives, and the lives of the families helped by the charities. I got my family to particapate in today’s prompt, all wearing clothes destined for our local Save the Children, (and yes, I squeezed my daughter into clothes that no longer fit her!!) to show that everybody should donate. So what are you waiting for.. get to the wardrobe, do a Spring clean and DONATE!!

I also wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who stopped by the blog to check out our Restyle posts throughout the month, I really hope you enjoyed seeing our styling of Op Shop threads, and most importantly I really hope it opened your eyes to the benefits of op shopping.

If you loved all the Restyle action and want to see more.. then don’t fret, Restyle on the Runway is only two weeks away. All the Restyle bloggers and all the best looks will be strutting down the Runway as part of Perth Fashion Festival on September 13th and September 15th at Fashion Central, 12pm. For more details head here .

And… Lastly if you think that Restyle was the last of our outfit challenges, then think again!! We have a brand new outfit challenge coming up on the blog next week!! Keep your eyes on the blog for more…

(Skirt – Save the Children $8, Top – Vintage)

    Welcome to the Jungle…

I couldn’t do a jungle inspired outfit without a little leopard print (ok, well actually a lot of leopard print!) This skirt is part of the Versace for H and M range. When I stumbled across it, not only was I excited to have a little piece of Versace in my wardrobe for the cool sum of $8.00, but I also knew it was perfect for today’s Jungle Fever prompt. Throw in a little more leopard and you’ve got an outfit that (I’m pretty sure) will have me camoflauged in the Jungle, if ever the need arose!

P.S. Can you believe tomorrow is the last day of Restyle. I feel like the month has flown by!
