Today I wanted to give you a little insight into the ‘real life of a fashion blogger’.
Firstly, let me start off by saying, it is damn hard work! Sure, there are fun sides to it, I mean who doesn’t love dressing up in new clothes and yes, attending fashion events is a pretty rad perk too, but for the most part fashion blogging is not all glitz and glam!
To give you an insight into a typical outfit post, let me talk you through this one.
Step 1. Creating the outfit.
Now this is the bit I love the most but it is definitely not without it’s challenges. Let’s all take a moment to remember the last time we got ready to go out somewhere. How long did it take? An hour? Hour and a half? Then flashback to how your clothes looked afterwards. In a pile on the floor, right? Yep, mine are all still there!! (That’s another hour hanging all those back up!)
Ok, I’m finally ready to go. Grab the camera, the photographer (aka the husband!) and yep, I suppose I better bring the two year old along too. (Which also means snacks and entertainment must be packed.)
Step 2. Location scouting.
I always try to incorporate a photo shoot around whatever we are doing that day, so sometimes I have no idea where that day’s shoot will be taking place. This particular day we had just been out for lunch in the Swan Valley. We decided to head back towards Midland industrial area to see what we could find. Driving around searching for the perfect spot can be a very tedious and time consuming exercise, especially when the sun begins to fade later in the day. We were pretty lucky this time and came across this abandoned building without too much searching.
Step 3. The photo shoot.
Ok, we have found a spot and we are on. So far it is going well, only minimal stares from people driving past wondering what the hell we are doing. Oh sorry, what was that little miss Z? You need to go to the toilet? Right now?! Ummm well there’s a bush over there so let’s give that a go!!** (In case you were wondering yes, of course she weed on her clothes.. after a quick pants change we were back shooting again!)
Step 4. Photo editing.
After the shoot the photos need to be edited, yep all 378* of them. Culled, cropped, edited, uploaded then added to the blog, one by one.. using html!
Step 5. Compose the post.
Alright photos are done, go me! Next I need to write the post. This can be one of the harder parts for me. Let’s just say if my high school English teacher knew I was writing on a daily basis I think she may have a fit! I had the idea to give a behind the scenes look at a blog post a while ago so this post was really fun to write! (Hopefully to read too!)
Step 6. Promote the post.
Post composed and published. Yay! We are done!!
Oh no, no no.. do you even know how big the internet is? (Actually neither do I!) but let’s just say, it is BIG! Trying to get your little old post seen is pretty darn difficult. You need to hustle like a mother f*£%$er to get people on to that site. So, this is the part were I stand on the (virtual) street corner pimping out my post out to anyone who is interested.
Aaaand.. when all that is done, I do it all over again for the next post. What a glamorous life!
* May be a slight exaggeration.
**For the record this was my daughter’s first attempt at a bush squat and she was less that impressed!
