Basic Black Shoes

I recently realised there was a gap in my wardrobe where basic black shoes should be. In fact my whole shoe-drobe needed a bit of an overhaul. I had got to a point where getting dressed all came down to the (lack of) shoes, causing the whole getting ready process to be a lot longer* than necessary.

Enter the three new editions to my wardrobe. The basic slide, the block heel mule and the high heeled slingback. All in black, naturally! With these three additions I feel like I have every occasion covered. Basic black shoes are a wardrobe staple and while I love a good statement shoe, I have finally realised that building a wardrobe around basics is essential. (Wow, how mature of me!!)

Hope everyone is enjoying the start of a new week, I am busy working on lots of exciting things for the blog this week with another beauty review and a new style segment!

Happy Monday!

* I am officially blaming my lack of suitable shoes for my constant lateness, although this is not a guarantee it will change!

Beauty Review: Napoleon DéVine Goddess Lipstick

Napoleon DéVine Goddess in Hara

Today we are taking a break from all the TPFF action with something a little bit different, our first ever beauty review! I am so excited to finally launch the beauty section on the blog as it is something I have wanted to do for a while! You can expect to see beauty reviews, make up how to’s, plus a few tips and tricks from experts.
I would love to hear your feedback too, if there is anything you want to see more of on the blog (beauty related or not!) be sure to let me know.

Today I am reviewing the Napoleon Perdis DéVine Goddess lipstick in the colour, Hara.
I am totally in love with the orange toned colour. I like a bold lip but red tones don’t really suit me, so if I am going for a vivid lip, I prefer a orangey-red colour.
The lipstick goes on silky smooth and keeps your lips feeling moisturised. It doesn’t dry out your lips at all and the rich pigment means the colour stays put (even after food!).
This is the first time I have used a Napoleon lipstick and am quite impressed. With over 20 colours to choose from, it’s safe to say I will be using it again!

Have you tried the Napoleon DéVine Goddess lipstick before? What did you think?

What everyone is wearing to the shows is just about as important as what the designer is sending down the runway.

Street style at fashion week(s) around the world have inspired many an outfit.
Let’s be honest here, what everyone is wearing to the shows is just about as important as what the designer is sending down the runway (if not more!)

One of my fool proof ways to cure a bout of outfit block is to type those two magic words into Google. (Actually, it’s pretty much the way I solve all of life’s problems!!) I did a bit of style stalking at Fashion Central over the TPFF weekend to hopefully help you next time the disease strikes (it’s a serious issue!) There was plenty to see, with Perth fashionistas turning up the style factor. Bright colours, crop tops, monochrome and designer bags aplenty!!

Every year one of my favourite shows at the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival (TPFF) is the student runway. Fashion design students get creative to showcase their best designs across six categories. It is always so refreshing to see the imaginations of the next generation of local fashion designers come alive.
My personal favourite(s) from the night were the two dreamy creations by Polytechnic West student, Charissa Schlink, which is actually no surprise because I have been a fan of her fun fashion label, Birds On A Wire for a while!

Congratulations to all the winners and I can’t wait to follow your fashion journey!

The winners of each category:

Women’s ready to wear: Sheridan Savage, WAAPA
Men’s ready to wear: Rini Teng, Central Institute

Hello Parry. Two words you have heard quite a bit around here lately, (Ahem.. here and here in case you missed it!) and with good reason too. The chic online store is a favourite of mine and it’s easy to see why. On trend, wearable fashion at great prices, hello! What’s not to love?

On Saturday, Fashion Central was swarming with a rather well dressed bunch of Hello Parry fans who turned out for the show. The hottest day on record for September made the perfect backdrop (and let’s be honest, a ridiculously hot tent) for the Spring/Summer collections. Models adorned in pretty pastels, graphic prints and monochrome looks bopped down the runway to blaring tunes.

The show left me feeling quite excited about the warmer weather and I definitely have my eye on more than a few things in store, that oversized polka dot clutch for example!!

Stay tuned for more from the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival over the next few days, including all the street style snaps from Fashion Central.

The Restyle Photo-A-Day Opshop Challenge took to the runway (twice!) over the weekend, as part of this year’s Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. The seven Restyle bloggers, along with volunteers from local stores and fellow op shop lovers, showcased their op-shopped looks at Fashion Central.
I went along to the show on Friday morning and annoyingly left my camera battery at home (arghh!) luckily the ever helpful Mystery Case was there and kindly lent me her camera. (Thank you!) Being at the show definitely brought back memories of last year’s strut, and it was so great to see a fresh batch of creative looks take to the runway.

Shopping at op shops and donating your unwanted goods is so important and the Restyle initiative certainly succeeds in raising awareness and promoting the need for op shopping, in the community.
The bloggers did a phenomenal job through-out August and on the runway bringing us thirty one looks using opshopped pieces, proving you don’t need to spend a fortune to look fabulous!!

10 Black Bags Under $100

Just because it is a wardrobe necessity, the basic black bag doesn’t need to be boring right? It’s all in the details. Gold hardware, embossed detail and a variety of different straps all add an interesting element to an everyday staple. Personally, I love a padlock detail and in terms of size, the bigger the better. (I just have so much ‘stuff’!!)

I have put together my ten favourite black bags under $100 for your shopping pleasure. My little Friday treat for you!
