Leopard print has had a bad rap in the past and I think we all can agree that seeing one too many tight bandage mini dresses worn inappropriately is where all our leopard fears have stemmed from. I managed to get past those fears a few years ago and went through a huge leopard phase, circa 2013. I had just about every item imaginable in the print. A leopard tee, leopard shoes, leopard coat (actually I had two of those!), leopard skirt.. you get the idea. I even played around with double leopard looks on occasion! Yep! Double leopard!
For some reason though, a little while ago, me and leopard had a falling out.. actually I think I know the reason and it was probably the aforementioned leopard everything I had going on in 2013!
Lately though, I have been seeing it pop up quite a bit and have finally decided to give it another chance..
How to wear leopard print
It’s so easy to get it wrong with animal print.. there is a very fine line between trendy and tacky. My advice would be to play down the sexiness of the print and go for more tomboy type styles. Channel your inner rock princess and try an oversized shirt tucked into a leather skirt or really go for it and work a leopard print coat into your wardrobe, team it back with black skinny jeans and a plain tee for a chic Winter look. On that note.. can we all just take a moment to appreciate Jenelle’s amazing coat? If that’s not enough to make you want to snap up some leopard print asap, I don’t know what is!
If a whole heap of leopard still has you feeling a little uneasy, leopard accents are the way to go. A classic pump, a strappy sandal, a scarf or a clutch are the perfect way to add a pop of print, without going overboard..
