Capsule Wardrobe: Start with the Basics

To build the ultimate capsule wardrobe, you must first start with the basics..

The key to building.. well anything really, is to start with a good base. When it comes to fashion your base should consist of quality, versatile pieces that you can incorporate into many of your daily outfits. Key pieces that are made well and fit well are imperative to a good capsule wardrobe.

That’s where Superdry comes in! Superdry is renowned for their quality fabrics, japanese graphics and americana vintage influences which makes it the perfect place to start building your base. I have two looks for you today using some of my classic Superdry basics I picked up from the new Perth store, that can easily be incorporated into so many different looks.

Look 1: Denim Pencil Skirt, White Pocket Tee, Denim Jacket all from Superdry.

First on the list is denim… every closet needs a classic denim jacket, along with a denim skirt, a pair of denim shorts and of course a couple of pairs of jeans (one black and one blue). Denim is comfortable and goes with EVERYTHING which is why it is such a major part of the capsule wardrobe.

It goes without saying that a quality white t-shirt is also one of the most important basics in any wardrobe. Personally I find a white t-shirt the easiest piece to style in my wardrobe, which means that about 80% of my outfits include one! A striped tee, and a black or neutral tee are also among my capsule wardrobe must haves.

Look 2: Racer Dress, Khaki Jacket all from Superdry.

Another wardrobe staple is a classic black dress. I prefer a midi length version as I feel like it is more versatile, but whatever you feel comfortable in is best. Black is by far my favourite colour as it can be dressed up or down and obviously dresses are just so easy to wear.. add a few accessories and you are done!

In a capsule wardrobe, along with classic denim and black jackets there needs to be a bit of ‘colour’ in the form of a khaki or camel jacket too to add a little something extra to all black or denim and white looks.

I have compiled a list of my 15 must have basics to build your own capsule wardrobe below, let me know if these pieces are among your must haves too!

  • – Denim jacket.
  • – Leather jacket.
  • – Black blazer.
  • – Khaki (or other neutral colour) jacket.
  • – White t-shirt.
  • – Striped t-shirt.

I totally agree with you on building up with the basics. I’ve heard of SuperDry but haven’t seen it around here as much in the States. I love the double denim outfit and that skirt and jacket are definitely must haves. The black dress in the second outfit is a staple piece as well. I am all about basics and adding to them to create an outfit so this post is right up my alley! Thanks for sharing! xoxo, Christine
