The 2016 Perth Fashion Festival runway round up plus what I wore…
Amidst all the fashion week action from around the world, last week my little hometown held their own annual fashion festival. The Perth Fashion Festival, now in it’s 18th year, is the only festival of its kind here in Perth. Local and international designers send their latest collections down the runway to a crowd of expectant fashionistas. This year the festival fell during such a busy time for me, so I was only able to attend two of the five nights. I went along to the Friday night shows to see this year’s fashion school graduates and their quirky designs (always an interesting show!), followed by local Perth label One Fell Swoop with their signature silky draped pieces in a dramatic sultry show.
On Sunday night we saw another local favourite Flannel and their very wearable, effortless pieces on a metallic gold runway (so cool!) followed by the spectacular closing show, The Art of Fashion. To finish off the festival around 20 designers were asked to contribute a couple of new designs each for the grand finale. The amazing, intricate headpieces designed by Reny Kestel added the perfect touch for such a fabulous show!
What I wore: Since the majority of the festival is held in the evening, it makes it so hard to get proper outfit photos.. #fashionbloggerproblems. On Friday I only managed to grab a quick snap in front of the media wall (thanks Ryan!) but on Sunday Jenelle, Mon and I met up early to grab some outfit shots.. so clever! I wore this divine rust coloured slip dress from Hello Parry which moves like molten copper when you walk, (I am actually obsessed!) layered over a mesh long sleeve and teamed with black OTK boots. On Friday I wore my old favourite Zara bell sleeve dress with another pair of over the knee boots because.. well it was freezing! But also I’m just not ready to pack away the OTK boots quite yet (can you tell?!). I will definitely be adapting some looks to continue wearing them throughout Spring!
On another fashion week note, how do you guys feel about Vogue’s Milan Fashion Week round up? They certainly shamed the street style bloggers. Do you agree with their comments? Obviously as a blogger I am all for bloggers attending the fashion shows and the importance of having bloggers in the fashion industry in general but I must admit, I do agree with some of the comments regarding the so called ‘style’ of these bloggers. Being paid to wear a designer head-to-toe defeats the purpose of being a ‘personal style’ blogger, don’t you think? Of course by all means wear your favourite designer’s pieces to their show but maybe a look that is styled a little more to your own taste, rather than a head-to-toe fresh off the runway outfit would be more inspiring for people to see… Anyway that’s just my opinion, would love to know yours!
