Perth City Guide: A quick look at some of my favourite spots around Perth…
Recently I was asked to share what makes my city special with a quick ‘city guide’. If you don’t know, I live in Perth, Australia. A (mostly) sunny city on the west coast of Oz. Personally I think it is the best place on Earth to live and feel pretty darn lucky to be able to live here!!
Why I love living in Perth…
Perth often gets ridiculed as a sleepy, backwards town that is way behind the rest of the world.. and while that may be true in some respects, in the last few years Perth has really stepped up it’s game and now offers facilities and precincts that rival our eastern state friends. Western Australia boasts some of the best beaches in the world and we are lucky enough to have gorgeous, sunny days about 70% of the year so we can enjoy them! While Perth city is quite a small city in the scheme of things, that is a huge part of the appeal for me. I like to know where I am at all times and don’t like the feeling of being ‘lost’ in big cities.
My favourite street in Perth..
You know what? I actually couldn’t narrow this down to just one street. So, my two favourite streets in Perth are: Beaufort Street and West Coast Highway. They are both so different but special in their own ways. Beaufort Street is a strip of some of our best restaurants, bars, shops and cafes.. it is a buzzing, happening street which is also located about 15 minutes away from where I live, hence why a lot of my time is spent there! West Coast Highway is the scenic route that runs right along the coastline. It is a great place for a walk, bike ride or drive on a sunny day and offers stunning views of the ocean at every turn. I love driving along in Summer searching for the perfect spot to pull up for a quick swim or to grab a coffee with a view!
Lastly, the most important part of any city..
The best spots for instagram photos in Perth..
Yep, there really should be a guide for each city in the world detailing the best instagram spots, don’t you think? It would make instagramming on holidays a whole lot easier! Firstly, if you are into vibrant colourful backgrounds, Perth has so many awesome vivid murals around the place. In the city there are numerous alley ways with street art covering their walls. Anya Brock murals are quite prominent here and there are plenty of those around. Roe st Northbridge, Eighth Ave in Maylands, Beaufort St in Inglewood, even next to my local cafe, in Bassendean, to name a few. If you prefer a more muted mural background, there are lots of Stormie Mills murals dotted around the city also.
If you are like me however and prefer more minimal backgrounds, well King St is possibly the prettiest street in Perth, cobblestone footpaths and gorgeous old buildings housing luxury brands, definitely an instagrammers dream! My other favourite instagram spot, a little bit south of the city, is the beautiful streets of Fremantle, in particular the Notre Dame University buildings.
Oh, and lastly there is a giant birdcage swing located just near Royal Perth Hospital which makes for a pretty cute instagram snap!
I hope you have enjoyed learning a little bit about what makes my city unique. Have you been to Perth before or do you live here too? OR if you are planning a visit soon I would love to hear from you!
