I don’t work in a corporate environment*, never have and most likely never will, but I still own a black pencil skirt. I know a black pencil skirt can often be thought of as ‘workwear’ only, but I believe it is a piece that should be in every wardrobe. It’s classic tailored silhouette makes it easy to pair with multiple items. Personally, I love balancing out an otherwise ‘dressy’ piece, such as the pencil skirt, with casual styles like a denim jacket, a pair of low heeled ankle boots or a oversized tee, to make it more wearable for every day!
This black pencil skirt from Metalicus is a great example of when a pencil skirt can perform both in and out of the office. The side splits and the slight high-low hemline make it interesting enough for either occasion. However, if looking like you have just left the office is the last thing you want, there are definitely still ways to incorporate a black pencil skirt into your look. There is a fine line though. There are times I try a pencil skirt on with something and can’t get the ‘work outfit’ idea out of my head. (Pencil skirts and button down shirts just don’t mix.. unless you are actually going to work that is!) Today’s midriff baring look is never going to be confused with a corporate look, but just in case somebody MAY get that idea, I teamed it with a denim jacket.
Do you wear a black pencil skirt out of the office?
*Fun fact: I worked at a daycare centre for three years and loved every minute of it (obviously this was before I had my own child.. I’m not crazy!)
