Sometimes you overlook the fact that your own neighbourhood may just be the best place for a relaxing getaway, as I recently discovered when the Fit Club Perth girls and I were invited along for a fun-filled staycation at the Alex Hotel!
Upon arrival we were shown around the hotel, the warm, inviting decor and general ‘home away from home’ feeling is evident from the moment you walk in. Communal living spaces, book corners, a 24 hour espresso bar, the rooftop space (complete with amazing city views) and my personal favourite the ‘honour bar’ system stocked with so many great WA wines, combine to make your stay at the Alex as comfortable and enjoyable as can be. The interior design by Arent&Pyke, their first commercial project, is perfectly executed. Neville dropped me off at the hotel and immediately started gushing (you know, in a manly way!) over all the design features!
After our hotel tour we headed off down William Street to.. do some shopping, of course! There are so many great retailers along the strip, most of whom stock wares by local designers, so it was great to stop and chat and discover more of WA’s talent! We walked, shopped, snapped and then stopped at Tea for Tu and enjoyed a decadent RED VELVET CAKE-SHAKE in their courtyard cafe. (It was every bit as amazing as it sounds!) Sugar highs kicked in as we made our way back to the hotel to change for a blissful Yoga session at Yoga Alchemy. (Yes, we did yoga after drinking the cake-shakes!) The lovely Amanda guided us through a relaxing yoga flow which was so needed and the perfect way to unwind after a full-on week!
Our evening festivities began by watching the Sunset and sipping champagne on the rooftop terrace. The view of Perth city is so magical up there, I highly recommend checking it out! We continued on into Northbridge and were wined and dined at The Standard. It was my first time there and I was utterly impressed. The attentive service, impeccable food and OMG cocktails left us all feeling content and very full! The night ended with some dancing (of course) before heading back to the communal mezzanine floor at the Alex for a nightcap. It was so fun to see other groups there enjoying the open space and some of the guests were even partaking in a competitive game of Jenga!
Now, you would think a group of four girls staying in the same room (umm did I mention the Alex has a BUNK room! So fun!) would just chatter the night away and not get any sleep but after a full schedule (and thanks to the super comfy beds) we were all out within minutes…
alright there may have been one of us who chattered a little,
aaaand it may have been me. Yep, I am that annoying one! Sorry guys!
The next day we made our way down for a delicious continental buffet breakfast (two of my favourite words right there!) before a quick meeting followed by lots of coffee, in the downstairs space. Then, to finish off our stay, we headed out on the cute Lekker bikes the Alex Hotel offers for guest use. The perfect way to get out there and explore the city!
Our staycation at the Alex Hotel was SO MUCH fun, it was the ideal way to discover new things in our own backyard while enjoying more of what our very own city has to offer..
