If you have never heard of it, Xtend Barre is kind of like ballet on steroids! A fast paced almost aerobic like mix of dance positions combined with pilates core focused exercises. Xtend Barre Perth offers a range of different classes that all utilise basic dancing principals, I managed to try only two of the different classes they had on offer, the regular Xtend Barre class and the circuit 7, but there are around seven different class types to try.
I do like to think of myself as a great dancer (a bit like Beyonce at times, so I’m told)* but if I was going to be completely honest, my dancing career ended when I was around 7 years old, after failing my first dancing exam and realising I would have to repeat the class with kids that were all younger than me..
Anyway, my point is my dance level was right around the beginner level. I did have a very basic knowledge of some of the ballet steps which definitely helped a lot throughout the class. If it is your first time I would recommend gaining a slight understanding as due to the rapid rate at which the moves are performed, it is easy to get lost!
The Xtend Barre workout was definitely a challenge and I would recommend giving it a go, especially if you enjoy dancing. As I mentioned, I also managed to check out the Circuit 7 class they have on offer which is a high intensity circuit of seven, 7 minute excercises in a HIIT style. This was a little closer to my usual style of working out so I really enjoyed this one (and again a very challenging workout!!)
So, if you want to get the body of a dancer (yes, please!), check out:
